Branimir Janković graduated with a double major in History and Croatian Studies at Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, Croatia. He obtained a PhD in 2014 with a dissertation about the theoretical and methodological transformations of Croatian historiography in late Yugoslav socialism at Department of History, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb.

He is an associate professor at Department of History, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. His research and teaching interests focus on the history of historiography, the comparative history of revolutions, intellectual history, public history, and historiography and nationalism.

Branimir Janković is the deputy director of the Centre for Theoretical Research in the Humanities and deputy director of the Doctoral Study Program in Modern and Contemporary Croatian History in the European and World Context. He is a member of the International Commission for the History and Theory of Historiography (ICHTH).

His recent articles in English include “Building New Networks: Russian Émigré Scholars in Yugoslavia“ (in Stefan Berger, Philipp Müller (eds.) Dynamics of Emigration: Émigré Scholars and the Production of Historical Knowledge in the 20th Century. New York: Berghahn Books, 2022) and ‟Croatia’s Knowledge Production on Kosovo around 1989” (in Comparative Southeast European Studies 69 (2021) 2-3). In 2025, he edited (with Nikola Tomašegović) the volume Nadilaženje nacionalne paradigme: Od historiografskog nacionalizma do transnacionalnih pristupa [Trascending the National Paradigm: From Historiographical Nationalism to Transnational Approaches].
