Maša Kolanović graduated with a double major in Croatian Language and Literature and Comparative Literature at Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, Croatia. In 2010 she graduated with Ph.D. thesis entitled “Croatian Novel and Popular Culture: from Socialism till Transition’’ at Department of Croatian Language and Literature, University of Zagreb.

She is working as the associate professor at Department of Croatian Language and Literature, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, where she teaches classes on Croatian literature and culture of 20 ^th and 21 ^st century. Her main fields of interest are cultural, imagological, and socio-economic interpretations of contemporary Croatian literature and culture within Yugoslav and post Yugoslav context.

She is the author of ‘’Udarnik! Buntovnik? Potrošač…Popularna kultura i hrvatski roman od socijalizma do tranzicije’’ (Zagreb, Naklada Ljevak, 2011), ‘’Metafora kapitalizma. Ekonomski imaginarij Sjedinjenih Američkih Država u hrvatskoj književnosti 20. st.’’ (Zagreb, Stilus knjiga, 2024), editor of ‘’Komparativni postsocijalizam – slavenska iskustva’’ (Zagreb, FF Press and Zagrebačka slavistička škola, 2013 and the co-editor of publications including, ‘’The Cultural Life of Capitalism in Yugoslavia: (Post)Socialism and Its Other’’ (New York and London, Palgrave Macmillan, 2017 with Dijana Jelača and Danijela Lugarić), ‘’Ekonomija i književnost/ Economy and Literature’’ (Zagreb, Hrvatska sveučilišna naklada and Filozofski fakultet sveučilišta u Zagrebu, 2022, with Marijana Hameršak and Lana Molvarec). She was a visiting fellow at the University of Vienna as part of a Herder Scholarship (academic year 2005/06); at the University of Texas in the United States as part of Junior Faculty Development Program (spring semester 2011/12); at Trinity College Dublin (March–April 2017) as a part of Trinity Long Room Hub Research Fellowship; and at New York University as part of the Remarque Institute Fellowship (January–May 2020). From March 2017 to March 2020, she was a principal investigator of the research project Economic Foundations of Croatian Literature, funded by the Croatian Science Foundation, and participated as a collaborator in several other research projects. Since 2015, she has been a member of the editorial board of the journal Književna smotra.
