Tibor Komar was born in 1978 in Zagreb, where he graduated from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences with a degree in Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology and Information Sciences/Museology. Since 2008, he has been employed at the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology at the same faculty. He earned his PhD in 2014 and currently working as an Assistant Professor, teaching courses at the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels at three study programmes – Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology, Anthropology and Cognitive Sciences. Courses taught are mostly oriented towards the questions of culture and identity, globalisation and theoretical framework in cultural anthropology. He worked on the project “Sacral interpretation of landscapes” which aimed at tracing the pre-Christian Slavic beliefs in the Croatian (micro)toponymy and topography as well as in oral tradition. He is the author of the book “Football and National Identity of Young Diaspora National Team Members” which was published in 2025. His research interests are primarily focused on the anthropology of sport, the study of pre-Christian beliefs in South East Europe, and contemporary methods of preserving and presenting cultural heritage. He is also the Editor-in-chief of the scientific journal Studia ethnologica Croatica.
