Petar Strunje is an architectural historian specializing in public architecture and infrastructure, minority and interreligious spaces, and artistic transfer in the early modern eastern Adriatic.

He completed his undergraduate studies in Turkish Studies and Art History at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, where he obtained his MA in Art History in 2018. He holds a double PhD (cotutelle) in Architecture, Urbanism, and Design from the IUAV University of Venice and in History of Art from the University of Zagreb, obtained in 2022 for the thesis Defining Spaces of Exchange: Venice and the Eastern Adriatic.

In 2023 he joined Ca’ Foscari University of Venice as a postdoctoral researcher within the ERC project Architectural Culture of the Early Modern Eastern Adriatic. Since 2026 he has been working as Senior Research Assistant at the Institute of Art History – Cvito Fisković Centre in Split, within the Croatian Science Foundation project Where East Meets West: Travel Narratives and the Fashioning of a Dalmatian Artistic Heritage in Modern Europe (c. 1675–c. 1941). He has also been a member of the COST Action Islamic Legacy: Narratives East, West, South, North of the Mediterranean (1350–1750).

Strunje is the recipient of the Rector’s Award of the University of Zagreb (2014) and has pursued further academic training at the Universities of Padua and Ghent. He was recently awarded the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship for the project CONSTERRA – Constructing Imperial Territories in Post-Ottoman South-Eastern and East-Central Europe (1685–1740).
