Hrvoje Petrić graduated with a double major in History and Geography at University of Zagreb, Croatia. In 2008 he graduated with Ph.D. thesis entitled “Varaždin Generalate and Križevci County in the 17th century – environment, people and settlements” at Department of History, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb.

Hrvoje Petrić is professor of history in the Department of History on the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, Croatia. His research deals with Croatian early modern history and he has written several books and a series environmental history articles. Petrić’s publications include a monograph on the history of frontier societies and environment at the border between the Ottoman Empire and the Habsburg Monarchy, titled “Frontier Societies and Environment, Varaždin Generalate (Slavonian Military Frontier) and Križevci County in the 17th Century”, (Meridijani, 2012). He also published a history of one town in 17th century (“Koprivnica in the 17th century – environmental, demographic, social and economic changes in the border town”, (Meridijani, 2005), and edited collections of essays on history “Environmentalism in Central and Southeastern Europe: Historical Perspectives”, eds. Hrvoje Petrić and Ivana Žebec Šilj (Rowman & Littlefield/Lexington Books, 2017) and “Environmental History of the Dinaric Karst”, eds. Žiga Zwitter, Borna Fuerst-Bjeliš, Jelena Mrgić, Hrvoje Petrić and Matija Zorn (Springer International Publishing, 2024). He has attended more than 10 environmental history conferences. He is an editor of “Ekonomska i ekohistorija (Economic and Environmental History) Journal.”
