Jasmina Božić graduated with a double major in English and Philosophy at Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, Croatia, and acquired M.A. in Human Rights from the Central European University, Budapest. Her Ph.D. thesis in sociology of education related to grounded theory research on the implementation of Bologna process at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

After ten years of working in education for human rights and democratic citizenship at the Croatian Commission for UNESCO and the Research and Education Centre for Human Rights and Democratic Citizenship at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, she was engaged at the Department of Sociology, where she is working as full professor. She runs courses related to sociology of civil society and third sector, as well as propaedeutic courses. Her main research interests include civil society and human rights in Southeast Europe, sociology of agriculture and food, local development, rural studies. She is the author of the book ‘EU Accession and Human Rights: Window-dressing or Window of Opportunities?’ (FF Press, 2007) and numerous research articles in journals such as Journal of Rural Studies, Journal of Co-operative Organisation and Management etc. She was as a research associate in the Interreg ADRION ‘TESI project – Training and Education in Social Innovation’. She runs scientific research projects in the fields of sociology of agriculture and food. She is the Deputy Head of the Department of Sociology, editor of the reviews section of Social Ecology journal, member of the Croatian Sociological Association and several national ecological associations, and regular evaluator for the National Foundation for Civil Society Development.
