Vladimir Ivanović graduated in 2018 from the single-subject graduate study of sociology (scientific track) at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb on the topic of “Perception of ecological problems among students of the University of Zagreb”. He graduated with a Ph.D in sociology with his thesis titled “Resilience of rural areas in the Republic of Croatia based on quality of life indicators”. At the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, he is teaching undergraduate courses “Rural Sociology”, “Social Ecology”, “Environmental Ethics” and “Spatial and Environmental Sociology”. He has been a member of the Croatian Sociological Society since 2020 and has served as the secretary of the scientific journal “Social Ecology” since 2021, and as its executive editor since 2024.

He is working as a postdoctoral researcher on the EUROBORDERWALKS project and at the Department of Sociology. His work at the EUROBORDERWALKS project is tied with detailed ethnographic and sociological research on the Croatia’s south-eastern border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. His main fields of interest are environmental sociology, environmental movements, quality of life, rural sociology, resilience, border studies and qualitative methodology. Throughout his career he was part of over 10 national and international research projects ranging in themes from Roma minorities, environmental movements, climate change, role of informal care in healthcare systems, modernization processes, critical border studies and rural development and resilience. His scientific work focuses on perceptions and experiences of environmental movements,climate change and some broader empirical and theoretical considerations based heavily in environmental sociology. Alongside this, he has already published several papers focusing on cross-national comparison of Croatia with other south-east European countries.
