Sanja Virovec finished General high school in Bjelovar in 2013. She obtained her MA in Turkology and Croatian language and literature from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb (2019) with thesis entitled “Usporedba faktitiva-kauzativa u turskome i hrvatskome / Comparison of factitive-causative in Turkish and Croatian” under the mentorship of Prof. Ekrem Čaušević and Prof. Ivan Marković. In 2023 she earned her PhD with the dissertation entitled „Batı Türkçesinde Fiil Govdeleri / Verb stems in Western Turkic Languages“ under the mentorship of Prof. Mustafa Öner. She completed her doctoral studies as a recipient of a scholarship awarded the Government of the Republic of Türkiye.
She is currently employed as a senior assistant at the Department of Hungarian and Turkish Studies at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, where she teaches classes on Turkish language, Turkic peoples and languages. She is the author of the article “Polysemy in Verbs Derived from Loanword Bases in Western Turkic Languages” published in POF in 2024.
