Darko Matovac holds a MA degree in Croatian Language and Literature from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, Croatia. In 2013, he earned his PhD in Linguistics from the same institution with a doctoral thesis entitled “The Semantics of Croatian Prepositions.”

He is currently a Senior Lector at Croaticum – Centre for Croatian as a Second and Foreign Language, located at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. His research and professional interests lie at the intersection of linguistic and pedagogical theory and its practical classroom application, with a particular focus on the acquisition, teaching, and pedagogical description of Croatian as a second and foreign language. He possesses extensive teaching experience in the field gained both in Croatia and internationally. Among other works, he is the author of Basic Croatian Grammar: For Croatian Language Learners (Zagreb, Croatian University Press, 2022).
