Silvia Giurgiu was born in Câmpia Turzii, Romania, in 1981. She studied at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, where she graduated in 2004 with degrees in Theology and Philology (Romanian Language and Literature). In 2008, she completed her studies in Philosophy at the Faculty of History and Philosophy and obtained her degree in 2012. Between 2010 and 2012, she pursued a Master’s degree in Romanian Literature at the same university, and in 2012 she enrolled in a doctoral programme under the supervision of Professor Mircea Muthu. In 2016, she earned a PhD in Philology with the dissertation „Post-Kantian Autonomist Aesthetics as Applied Ethics: Ethical Substratum of Purist Literary Criticism in the 20th Century”. During her Master’s studies, she was awarded a research scholarship, while during her doctoral studies she received a scholarship from the Romanian Academy within the “Minerva” research programme.

From 2004 to 2010, she taught Romanian Language and Literature in pre-university education in Romania. Between 2010 and 2013, she worked in non-formal education as a coordinator of workshops in creative writing, theatre, and journalism. Following the completion of her doctoral studies, she worked as a Lecturer in Romanian Language at Democritus University of Thrace in Greece. Between 2018 and 2021, she taught social sciences and humanities — including logic, philosophy, and sociology — in pre-university education. Since 2021, she has been working as a Lecturer in Romanian as a Foreign Language at University of Zagreb.

She has participated in numerous national and international conferences and has published academic articles in the fields of philology and philosophy, as well as studies on didactics and foreign language teaching, in scholarly journals and collective volumes. She has also attended various summer schools, workshops, and professional development programmes.

Her main areas of academic interest include aesthetics, literary theory and argumentation theory, philosophy of culture, and language didactics.
